Botkins, Ohio: Center of the Universe

It isn't often that Botkins, Ohio, my home town, gets play on CNN.  It's a whole new day!

My Good Father,

While it is noteworthy, I suppose, that Botkins, Ohio was mentioned by CNN it is NOT the Center of the Universe.

We ALL know that it is NOT Botkins but PERRY, Florida that is the Center of the Universe!

Please, Father, let us remember we need to use words carefully and be accurate. Botkins is part of the 'Boondocks' and a section of the 'Sticks'!

I dunno, Jackie...I'm thinking that a Midwestern town, given the friendliness of the people and home-like hospitality makes a town like Botkins quite welcoming.

Never had that experience in Florida. Most Floridians seem to be transplants...not natives. And they tend to evacuate when the winds come their way.

Midwesterners, however, tend to just got to the basement so they can clean up themselves when the winds pass.

Give me the Sticks any day!

Alhtough I agreee that Botkins isn't the Center of the Universe...theologically speaking it's as dusty as Tempe Arizona.

I would have to agree that Botkins is not the center of the Universe. Who wants corn & beans in the center?

Sunshine - sunshine should be in the center - not the cloudy days of midwest.
And yes, Adoro, you are correct - dusty centers are no good.

Hawaii - how's that? Of course it is directly on a volcano - but doesn't that begin from the center of the earth?

All,
Since I am a RESIDENT of the "Center of the Universe" (Perry, FL...duh!!), I'd sure like to comment here. It is precisely BECAUSE of Adoro's experience in our transplant state that Perry stands out as so DIFFERENT. We are truly FAMILY here - some biologically, but mostly through LOVE. I think that must be why God allows sooooo many connections between worldwide events & Perry. It is truly remarkable - worldwide events that can be traced back to this friendly little town. Jackie can SURELY attest to this, as can many who live here or have lived here at one time. My dear Father, I am ABSOLUTELY sure that your home town is a FINE place to live and certainly to "be from". It is good to be proud of your roots. However, I agree with Jackie....one needs to be CAREFUL when using words. You could've said something like, "It reminds me of another small town - Perry, FL, 'the center of the universe.' " But actually STEALING the title outright and unauthoritatively bestowing it to YOUR town....well....that's just not a holy thing to do. But one of the things we are known for here, is treating you like family. So now that we've "corrected" you, you are now quite forgiven!
Much Love & Prayers from the REAL C.O.T.U.!!

I'm gonna stand with Father on this one. If his (and our) dissent against Perry FL is causing such a ruckus and such long responses, then it's clear that it can't possibly be the Center of the Universe.

I'm not sure Botkins is it, but it CERTAINLY isn't Florida.

Again...the midwestern small towns have a MUCH better chance of taking that title. People are much more genuine there. Except for Minneapolis. Avoid Minneapolis at all costs.

Fremont, Seattle, Washington states on a Welcome Sign entering the city that it is the 'COTU' (love the acronym - Thanks, Gay!!!).

How can there be two (or three) centers?

And better yet, what constitutes the 'center'?

'COTU' - reminds me:

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop? 1, 2, 3 .... crunch!
The world may never know.

Where is the center of the universe? If we can't figure out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop, HOW are we going to decide WHERE the COTU is?

LOL

(and don't ask the 'wise ole owl')

Hey I have to be at school today to proctor a placement test and we have tootsie roll pops in the library. If I can get into the library I'll get one and proceed on the mission of counting the licks. However this will require great patience, a virtue of which I possess very little.

COTU MIGHT be Muncie, Indiana, or therebouts....I've never been there, but it seems a likely enough spot. It's midwestern, I know some really nice people from there...hmmm....

Oh, and they prob'ly have tootsie pops there, too.
