And because I have kept my promise to God not to miss a mass in spite of a work schedule that includes world-wide travel on a near-constant basis, I have been rewarded with very special experiences: other people come with me -- a Brit living in Bahrain found a Catholic church there for me and came with me (and a year later when I was planning to return, in that case to do some work for the US Embassy, one of the Embassy officers living there who had not been to mass since being posted offered to come with me). Then there was the time I was doing some university lecturing in Ohio on the weekend, and I was offered by the seminar sponsors to set up any Saturday evening "entertainment" I wanted. I asked them to find me a Saturday evening mass. They did -- and they came with me. I learned that they were lapsed Catholics, and my request became an impulse for them to re-think.
