Transfiguration

Pictured above is Mt. Tabor, upon which is the Church of the Transfiguration, commemorating the spot of today's feast. From the top of the Mount, you can see nearly all throughout the Galilee valley, the Sea of Galilee, and beyond. It is quite the impressive view.
Better yet, though, is the road to get up to the Church: nearly 20 switchbacks! (I had a postcard somewhere, but in my many moves, alas!) To get to the Church, there is a fleet of stretched Mercedes Benz taxis, which look like they date from about 1964, and the guys who storm the mountain have been driving for as long as well! The Kamikazi trip up is rewarded with the peace of the view.
Me? I was thinking of staging a hill climb the whole way up!
