What Vocation Crisis, take 42?

From Zenit, comes the report of the recent youth conference in Loretto, Italy.

During the conference, there was the traditional 'Catholic Altar Call,' calling forward those young people who might be interested in a vocation to the priesthood and/or religious life. As is always the case, it wasn't one or two that came forward, but 2,000 young men and 1,200 young women!

Again, living the truth and proclaiming Christ completely will attract vocations. Do we support those who might be feeling that call in our prayers, and in our words? Do we speak positively of priests and religious? Do we encourage our young people to consider the call?

I am convinced that they are out there, they need the support to recognize that this is a viable and fruitful way of life, because the world ridicules what it does not understand.

Funny what you can find online:

National Organization for the Continuing Education of Roman Catholic Clergy.

Their website is not updated, is their 2008 convention in Detroit?

A lightbulb went off in my head today at work and we're going to start putting a sort of "undertone" with regard to Vocations in the faith formation programs. Like facts about our Saint who provided the inspiration for this year - new info every week, and little things about religious orders and options which will be up and down...and then back, just to make kids pay attention. It's all about marketing.

So if you have any suggestions, send them my way! I can give you a few ideas as to what we're thinking now, but it won't get going until the priority stuff is underway. So there's time to plan...

It's in Ann Arbor...but I asked because you would be sending your reservation to me. I want to be sure not to lose it. ;-)

Although now that I think about it, I don't know that Cincinnati is in our region. I know Youngstown is...
