Line of the Day

"So, not to be rude or anything, but why is a priest taking a sales training class?"

I tried to gently explain that I am in sales, just of a different kind, that's all.

Has it really been 8 days since my last post?!?!?! What in the world have I been doing for the last week?

Selling souls?

* ducking *

(Do I have to go to confession for that? I just went yesterday.)

Adoro, even though my quip when someone gripes at something I've said or done, or a position that Church holds is:"Remember, I'm in sales, not management;" this is more along the lines of using sales techniques to help promote the priesthood and overcome hurdles that candidates might have.

Is buying a house like entering the seminary?

Yeah, I know. We actually use that term a lot around here, too. Although we're selling Catholicism in general to a bunch of alleged Catholics who aren't buying.

* sigh *

Maybe we should take that class, too. :-(

People have a negative impression of sales because they don't understand what sales is about. What is sales? Helping someone make a decision, that's all. Your current position is involved mainly with helping people making a major life decision. This is not about convincing someone to do something they don't want to do. Rather it involves helping them overcome their internal objections that keep them from making a decision.

Actually, I was in sales for over 4 years and this job was NOT helping people make decisions - (I was one of those independent sales agents for a major 500 company) it was manipulating people into making a decision they did not need nor want....so I quit.

NORMAL sales should be helping people make a decision that is for their benefit, not mine. Wow - what a concept!

You're a good man, Fr.---I would have said,"yeah, there's enormous potential for growth in the Indulgence market for the right man."
